Shifter of Shapes: exploring The Lost Spells by Robert Macfarlane and Jackie Morris

Shifter of Shapes: exploring The Lost Spells by Robert Macfarlane and Jackie Morris

The Lost Spells is a moving, joyful treasure of a book by Robert Macfarlane and Jackie Morris, creators of The Lost Words. Our immersive exhibition experience invites visitors to step into nature, witnessing its power to amaze, console and bring joy.

A the heart of the exhibition is Red Fox – ‘Shifter of shapes and garbage-raider … Messenger, trickster, curfew-breaker’. See Jackie’s original paintings and recite Robert’s poems to bring Fox and his fellow creatures to life on the pages of our magical living book. Find out more about the beloved creative duo, peer into the hidden places where fox cubs nestle and jackdaws hide their treasure, and steal a glimpse into a wild landscape where foxes play. The soundtrack for the gallery is narrated, sung and played by Rachel Newton, one of the visionary musicians of Spell Songs.

Your bubble will have exclusive use of the gallery for fifteen minutes and then you will be invited to take a table in our Lost Spells Den, where you can browse the book and make a beautiful themed bookmark, with a complimentary tea or coffee.

To help make the most of your exhibition experience, take a look at our Slow Looking Guide and some ideas for Introducing little ones to Shifter of Shapes before your visit. Copies of these resources will also be available in the gallery.
