Share a Story Fundraising Appeal

Our new Christmas Fundraising Campaign 'Share a Story' has launched today, with the aim to raise £5,000 to purchase over 500 books to give to children in the Byker community this December.

The ‘Share a Story’ campaign will form part of this year's Byker Winter Festival coordinated by Byker Children & Young People's Partnership (BCYPP). Funds raised will purchase copies of the new title by Tom Percival called The Invisible, a story all about community, belonging and caring for our neighbours.

Sarah Cotton, Seven Stories Creative Producer said, “There is something so special about giving the gift of a book to a child – especially one as uplifting, poignant and beautiful as ‘The Invisible’. We encourage as many people as possible to get behind our fundraising efforts and donate if they can.

“Lots of local organisations like BCYPP are doing brilliant work supporting children and young people in Byker. This story represents the wonderful community spirit shown here during recent difficult times.” Sarah added.

Emma Leggott, Byker Partnership Manager adds, “It is easy to assume that all children want these days is a screen or tech – but we know the gift of a book is a very special one and something the young still love. Sharing a story with others is timeless and hopefully we will be able to share hundreds this winter."

The author of "The Invisible', Tom Percival, will visit Byker on Friday 10th December to meet local children, read from his new book and - it is hoped - give each child a complimentary copy. This occasion will kick-off a programme of activities that will form Byker's annual Winter Festival.
