Star Wars Weekend

Grab your lightsaber and join in as Seven Stories goes Star Wars crazy this weekend.

Feel the power of the Force! Have your photo taken with characters from the Galactic Empire and the Rebel Alliance and visit the Seven Stories Bookshop to create your own origami Starfighter to take home. Come dressed in your best Star Wars costume and join in the Star Wars masquerade Parade at 12pm with prizes supplied by Forbidden Planet, Newcastle.

Remember the first time you saw Star Wars? Star Wars has been enticing our imaginations for nearly 40 years, and with the release of a Disney Star Wars film in the near future it looks that generations to come will be able to join in the phenomenon. Star Wars not only invites us to consider the limits of science but also of film and our own imaginations.

Joining in the Star Wars weekend will be author Mark Brake, who is dedicated to making science accessible to the rest of us, alongside Jon Chase, a rapper, whose lyrics are aimed at young learners to inform, inspire and create a unique understanding of the world of science. Jon and Mark will probe the fantastic frontier between movie magic and cutting edge science. Star Wars conjures up images of spaceships, super weapons, and all sorts of visions of the future. But is this purely science fiction? Together they will explain how one of the most successful epics in entertainment history may actually anticipate real-life future science right here on earth.

Seven Stories is delighted to welcome artist Jake Steel. Not so long ago, in a studio not too far away… a small boy entered a felt-tip drawing of Darth Vader into a competition and won a king-size chocolate bar. That boy grew up to be Jake Steel -an official illustrator of Lucas Films ltd. Join Jake as he teaches you the tricks of the trade, shows you how to draw your own star wars characters and answers all your questions.  Jakes Prints will also be available to buy in the Seven Stories Bookshop all weekend.

This is a perfect opportunity to meet likeminded star wars fans and integrate into a community of people dedicated to the fiction. If you have not visited Seven Stories before it is also an opportunity to see what they do, look around our world class facilities and beautiful surroundings in the Ouseburn Valley.

Seven Stories’ also offers a range of events for all ages, from fun events for all the family to  workshops for aspiring illustrators and writers, there is guaranteed to be something for everyone.  Visit #7Starwars to see all the goings on and add your own photos to Star Wars weekend.
