Seven Stories Closing for Refurbishment in April 2015

We have some exciting news to share with you. Seven Stories - National Centre for Children’s Books will be closing for major refurbishment from Monday 20 April – July 2015 to coincide with our 10th birthday celebrations.

Kate Edwards, Chief Executive of Seven Stories said,  “In the spring we are planning a major refurbishment, building new exhibitions and making our visitor centre even more welcoming. In the future there will be more opportunities to enjoy our wonderful collection - everyone who visits Seven Stories will have a great day out!

Seven Stories visitor centre is open every day and after 10 years is in need of investment. The planned refurbishment will take place in the spring and will invest in the fabric of the building to make the visitor experience even more magical, to improve functionality for school groups and to make the building more energy efficient. The scheme will cost £750,000 and is being supported by a grant from Arts Council England and with the support of a number of trusts and foundations.

We have already raised £640,000 towards this scheme and are appealing for support to help us to achieve the £750,000 target that we need.

Seven Stories has been awarded £500,000 by Arts Council England. The following trusts and foundations have already pledged their support  - Foyle Foundation, Gillian Dickinson Charitable Trust, Idlewild Trust, Hadrian Trust, Ballinger Charitable Trust, Sir James Knott Trust, The Trust House Charitable Foundation  - alongside many individual friends and supporters.

You can help us by making a donation to our capital refurbishment appeal or you can pledge your regular support for our work by joining our Friends scheme.

The Easter Holidays are the last chance to visit Seven Stories before the refurbishment work takes place. Families are invited to celebrate Easter with interactive storytelling from our favourite rabbity books, drop in activities designed by paper-craft artist Ellen Giggenbach as well as author events, film screenings and more.

We look forward to updating you about our progress soon.
