Seven Stories, National Centre for Children’s Books saves, celebrates and shares children’s books. We have a nationally significant archive from the 1930’s to the present day and we collect all that goes into the making of a book from first scribbles to dummy books. Items from our archive can be seen at our exhibitions, workshops and author events available to children and young people at Seven Stories or in school.
By working with original material from our archive children and young people can see the initial thoughts, ideas and varying processes of authors and illustrators.
Working with Seven Stories encourages children and young people and those who work with them to:
- Explore the creative processes that go into making books and create their own responses to them
- Increase their literacy skills through exploring our archive, exhibitions and participating in creative activities across a range of art forms
- Consider the wide range of roles involved in publishing children’s books and future career options
- Promote a love of books, reading for pleasure and contribute to the teaching of reading and speaking and listening skills
- Develop their expertise in book selection through our Hooks into Books programme.
Seven Stories supports schools to achieve Artsmark through:
- Supporting curriculum provision and the development of arts partnerships through visits and outreach
- Providing a CPD programme for teachers and trainee teachers
- Providing one-off sessions or a longer-term whole school approach that can support your School Development Plan objectives
