Your bubble will have exclusive use of the gallery for 15 minutes, in which you can play word games, recite the Spells, watch wild foxes in their habitat and enjoy the 'magic book' narrated by Rachel Newton, one of the visionary musicians of Spell SongsAfter your gallery visit, you'll be invited to take a table in our Lost Spells Den, where you can browse the book and make a beautiful themed bookmark, with a complimentary tea or coffee for the grown-ups.

If you love this exhibition, we also have our special Spell Watch walks (running on Tuesdays and Thursdays throughout July/August/Sept) - you'll join our Story Catchers for a nature ramble inspired by Robert MacFarlane and Jackie Morris' book The Lost Spells. With a special map to keep you and the Story Catchers on track you'll explore the Ouseburn Valley and 'craft on the go' with interactive nature activities along the way. Another nature-inspired activity ideal for 5-7 year olds is the Eggs, Nests & Calls workshop running every Friday throughout the summer holidays. Packed full of interesting facts and activities, this workshop is perfect for young twitchers keen to look after the bird life around them.

Our Level 4 exhibition is free to enjoy too so pop in after your trip to Shifter of Shapes, it's just down the stairs. If it's busy we might ask you to wait a couple of minutes so that we can make sure everyone is COVID-safe and socially distanced.
