"On a dark, dark hill, there was a dark, dark town. In the dark, dark town, there was a dark, dark street. On the dark, dark street, there was a dark, dark house. In the dark, dark house, there was a dark, dark staircase. Down the dark, dark staircase, there was a dark, dark cellar. And in the dark, dark cellar, some skeletons lived."

This October Half Term we are celebrating 35 years of Funny Bones by Janet and Allan Ahlberg! Did you know...

  • It is the 35th Anniversary of Funny Bones this year - the first books were published back in 1980.
  • The much loved cartoon series was narrated by Griff Rhys Jones.
  • Allan Ahlberg was born in 1938 in South London, and grew up in the Black Country. He worked as a teacher, postman, grave digger, soldier and plumber's mate before he became a full-time writer. (Maybe Allan’s work as a grave digger inspired him to write Funny Bones?!)
  • Janet and Allan Ahlberg met while enrolled in a teacher training course at Sunderland Technical College and married in 1969.
  • In 2015 Funny Bones made it on to the Telegraph’s 100 Best Children’s Books of All Time.

On Thursday 29, Friday 30 and Saturday 31 October you can also enjoy spooky face painting with Izzy’s Face Painting - get ready spook all your friends and family! Have you always wanted to explore the magical world of Harry Potter? Join our ‘Professor of Potter’ and his plucky assistant as they bring to life the characters, creatures, spells and adventures from Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone under the twinkling lights of Diagon Alley in the Attic.
