We invited over 100 children from disadvantaged areas of Newcastle to a free community event on Sunday 11th December 2022 - to meet the Man in Red himself and enjoy our seven-storey museum, thanks to the support of four local businesses.

Children from across the city enjoyed treats and drinks and a visit to Santa, before making memories in the new Winterland gallery experience and exploring the rest of the Seven Stories building with their families.

The event was sponsored by Aspire Technology Solutions, AP Literacy, Ward Hadaway and Differentology

Wendy Elliott, CEO at Seven Stories, explains:

“It's crucially important that children have the opportunity to have fun, make memories and enjoy stories despite the economic climate. We want to share our building and all its treasures with as many families as possible this winter, and with the support of these four fantastic businesses we have been able to offer something magical this weekend."

Steve Watson, Strategic Engagement Lead at sponsor Aspire Technology Solutions said: “My love for books is bottomless, and as lead of Aspire’s Sustainability Group, I couldn’t let this opportunity pass us by. Part of the Group’s aim is to nurture and support our people and communities and we want to do everything we can to encourage a love of reading and all the skills that come with that, to nurture the next generation and of course any future Aspire employees!

“Some of the best writers of all time have been born and bred in the North East, from Catherine Cookson to Terry Deary and Sting, and we want to show young people that they can be or do anything – and we think a love of reading is critical to making that happen.”
