Brian Alderson is one of the pioneers of children’s literature studies in Britain and a well- respected and knowledgeable writer, reviewer and translator.
A generous supporter of Seven Stories and children’s literature in Newcastle for many years we are pleased to present Brian’s fascinating series of talks marking two significant anniversaries in the history of storytelling and children's books.
Wednesday 5 December | 5.30pm | Two Hundred Years of the Sleeping Princess
Brian will celebrate the 1812 publication of the Grimms' Kinder-und Hausmärchen, probably the single most important event in the history of folklore and storytelling. He will show us the rather curious beginnings of the project and the contested question of authenticity, before going on to consider the sometimes damaging results of the stories' translation and illustration.
Free event, booking recommended.
