Creating Seven Stories required energy, commitment and hard work but it is unique and something that matters and makes a difference to people's lives. I am rewarded every time I walk into the quirky, beautiful building and see that 5 years on it is still thriving. It is everything I ever dreamed it would be and more!
Elizabeth Hammill OBE
One way or another, Seven Stories has established itself on the local, national and international stage under the inspired leadership of Kate Edwards and the Seven Stories team. In 2005, we hoped that we had created something unique and special - a portal into the imagination and the world of books. Five years on, I see that creation working wonders every time I visit!

Books and storytelling for the young sit right at the heart of our culture. British children's literature is loved and envied throughout the world. It is one of the great cultural and economic successes of recent years. Seven Stories is a flagship of this success. It's a visionary place, a heroic venture that draws on the work of the past, draws together the strands of the present, and reaches out to the future. There was nothing like it before and there is nothing quite like it now. Best of all, Seven Stories works!
There are already legions of young people whose outlook on life, whose learning, whose enjoyment of books, whose artistic skills, whose participation in cultural life, have been deepened and intensified by the work of this place. There are legions of adults who have been brought to see that literature and illustration for children are among our great national treasures, and that they can be of the highest artistic standard. Writers, artists, scholars, academics, storytellers, actors, designers, publishers - and most important of all, children and their families - all flock here to discover and take part in the magic of this place.

Seven Stories is one of my most favourite places in the world. This is a place that celebrates books. It's as simple as that, but it's how books are made, where books have come from, how children can get involved in books. And it reminds us that they've made education much too complicated and much too boring, that you can put these things that human beings have invented over thousands of years right at the very heart of a child and the school. And life. And this place reminds us of that because it's fun and it's wonderful and I love it.
